The moment every cinephile has been waiting for has finally arrived: 2023 Oscar nominations have officially been announced! From box-office hits such as Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water to fan-favorite contenders like Everything Everywhere All At Once, there’s some fierce competition for the Best Picture award this year.

The film garnered a wide array of nominations this year, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and a nomination for Volker Bertelmann’s original score.

James Cameron’s latest sci-fi adventure film, Avatar: The Way of Water, earned multiple Oscar nominations this year, including Best Picture and Best Visual Effects. The film serves as a sequel to 2009’s Avatar and stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Dileep Rao and more reprising their roles from the original film, as well as Sigourney Weaver returning in a new role alongside Kate Winslet, Edie Falco and Jemaine Clement. In Avatar: The Way of Water Worthington’s Jake Sully and his familyand several space whalesare called upon to defend the fictional planet of Pandora from another human threat.

'The Banshees of Inisherin' is nominated for eight Academy Awards.

The Banshees of Inisherin is Martin McDonagh’s fifth turn as a film writer/director, and reunited Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson for the first time since 2008’s In Bruges for a sharp, oftentimes hilarious glimpse into a dissolving friendship. The film racked up a huge array of Oscar nominations, including Best Actor nods for Farrell (who already nabbed a Golden Globe for his performance) and Gleeson and Supporting Actor and Actress nominations for Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon. You can catch the film (and Farrell in all his sunshine-y glory) on HBO Max.

It’s an undeniable celebration of the King’s music; the “Trouble” sequence is an all-timer among movie musicals, and you’ll be humming “Suspicious Minds” for weeks.

Owing a debt to The Matrix, this surreal journey through the labyrinth of space and time and heartbreak holds some lovely truths about acceptance and family.

Leave it to Steven Spielberg to deliver one of the best, most intimate, most meaningful works of his career at 75. This is an astonishingly resonant portrait of the filmmaker as a young man—and an exploration of his parents’ divorce, which informed his work on E.T., Minority Report, Duel, and so many other important films. There’s a scene in which Michelle Williams hops in the family car to chase a tornado, children in tow, that recalls the director’s underrated 2005 remake of War of the Worlds. If you love movies, The Fabelmans is simply required viewing. And it might be the best thing Spielberg’s ever done.

How to stream ‘Women Talking’

'Women Talking' is currently airing in theaters.

Based on the novel by Miriam Toews, which depicted the traumatic real-life events that occurred within Bolivia’s Manitoba Colony, Women Talking features an all-star cast, including Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Ben Whishaw and Frances McDormand. The film charts the 48 hour period after the women of the Manitoba Colony learn that the men of their community have been drugging and raping many of the colony members for several years, and unfolds as the women attempt to decide whether to stay or flee.
