Student nurse ‘jihadi’ found with ‘pressure cooker bomb’ at Leeds hospital facing trial over RAF base ‘terror plot’

A STUDENT nurse found at a hospital with a “pressure cooker bomb” is facing trial over an alleged RAF base terror plot.
Mohammad Farooq, 27, was arrested after bomb squad and Army specialists swooped on St James’s Hospital in Leeds on January 20.

Farooq appeared at the Old Bailey today charged with engaging in the preparation of an act of terrorism and possessing an imitation firearm.
He is also accused of keeping an explosive with intent to endanger life or property.
No plea was entered but a provisional trial date was set for October 16.

Farooq allegedly carried out online research and then “hostile reconnaissance” of the military base on January 10 and 18.
The student nurse had been due to work a shift at the hospital when he was found with the viable bomb, it was said.
Farooq was also allegedly in possession of an imitation firearm – a Gediz 9mm P.A.K semi-automatic pistol.
When police searched his mobile devices, they found he had been viewing radical Islam and Jihad material since 2020, it is said.

Farooq was remanded into custody ahead of a hearing at the same court on July 7.
