Police officer stabbed while trying to arrest knife-wielding man in Birmingham

A POLICE officer was stabbed in the shoulder while trying to arrest a knife-wielding man during a call-out.
The cop was responding to reports of “serious disorder” in the Kings Heath area of Birmingham yesterday morning when he was knifed.

He stabbed one of them in the shoulder as they tried to arrest him on January 25.
The man, in his 40s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of a knife in a public place.
He remains in custody.

West Midlands Police said the officer sustained “non life-threatening or life-changing” injuries.
A spokesperson for the force added: “We take assaults against our officers incredibly seriously and are supporting the officer who was assaulted.
“Officers keep us safe every day and deserve to be able to do their job without fear of being attacked.”
