Man, 79, and woman, 85, killed in horror crash on Scots road as cops launch probe

A MAN and a woman have died after a horror crash between two cars near Lauder.
Emergency services were called to the scene yesterday afternoon after reports of the crash on the A697 between Carfraemill and Greenlaw in the Borders.

The driver of the Kia Venga, a 79-year-old man, and the passenger, an 85-year-old woman, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The female driver of the Kia Sportage was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.
The road was closed for around seven hours while police began investigations into the crash.

It is understood the road has reopened.
Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.
And police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward and are also encouraging, as well as anyone with dash cam footage.
Road Policing Sergeant Kosmas Papakyriakou said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of those involved in this incident.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish what happened and we are appealing for anyone who was on the A697 around this time and who witnessed the crash or either vehicle on the road beforehand to contact us.
“I would also ask drivers with dash-cam footage who were in the area to contact us if they believe they can assist.”
