Brianna Ghey cops reveal they are probing whether stabbing death of trans teen was a hate crime after bullying claims

POLICE are investigating whether the brutal murder of a transgender teen was a “hate crime”.
Brianna Ghey, 16, was stabbed to death in Linear Park, Culcheth, at around 3.13pm on Saturday.

But the force issued a fresh statement today saying all lines are being explored, including if Brianna, who was a transgender girl, was attacked as part of a hate crime.
The development comes after police were granted a further 30 hours to quiz two people in custody.
The boy and girl, both aged 15, were arrested on suspicion of the schoolgirl’s murder.

Brianna’s devastated friends are planning to join members of the transgender community at a candlelight vigil tonight.
Other gatherings will take place in London, Glasgow, Leeds and Belfast to remember the teenager.
In a tribute issued after Brianna’s death on behalf of her family, they said the teenager was a “much-loved daughter, granddaughter, and baby sister”.
The statement continued: “She was a larger-than-life character who would leave a lasting impression on all that met her.

“Brianna was beautiful, witty and hilarious.
“Brianna was strong, fearless and one of a kind.
“The loss of her young life has left a massive hole in our family, and we know that the teachers and her friends who were involved in her life will feel the same.”
Police were scrambled to the park after Brianna was found with serious injuries.
Detective Chief Supt Mike Evans of Cheshire Police described the killing as a “targeted attack” on Brianna during a “busy day” at the park.
The schoolgirl was popular on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
But some friends she was bullied by her fellow classmates.
Police are asking people and businesses in the community to come forward with any information they have and to check CCTV or dashcam footage.
