Brazen lag demands compensation after visit to the hospital resulted in clothing mishap

A PRISONER is demanding compensation after his favourite trainers were destroyed in jail.
He was offered £70 but refused, insisting the shoes were worth a lot more.

Last week’s report stated: “A prisoner was admitted to hospital for several days.
“Staff returned his property in clinical waste bags which were then destroyed.
“The prison offered him compensation well below the purchase price of his trainers.
“He was then offered £70 which he refused, and the complaint is still ongoing.
“This process has taken over four months.”
The complaint was one of 817 by lags in the past year at the Category C HMP Swinfen Hall, Staffs — up from 657 the year before.

The IMB said that 36 per cent — 294 in all — were about missing or damaged property.
They included a lag who says his Freeview TV box was pinched from his cell and others who had books stolen.
