Jermaine Franklin faces the toughest test of his career to date — by far — when he takes on former heavyweight title challenger Dillian Whyte at Wembley Arena in London on November 26. The bout, plus undercard action, will be broadcast live by DAZN.
Franklin has never faced an true world-level opponent since turning professional. However, he does possess impressive hand speed, mobility, and punching power, which are attributes that have given Whyte trouble in the past.
While Dillian Whyte’s next opponent has flown under the radar, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a primer on Franklin’s boxing career including a look into his record, stats and biggest fights to date.
Who is Jermaine Franklin?
The 29-year-old Franklin hails from Saginaw, Michigan and has been boxing professionally since 2015. He has an impressive unbeaten record of 21-0 (14 KOs), and his 67-percent knockout ratio suggests that he cannot be overlooked.
Since the Whyte fight was announced, Franklin has oozed confidence. The visitor is convinced that he has too much for the vastly more experienced Londoner, and he is not one bit deterred by the pre-fight odds, which list him as a +650 underdog.
“I’m a confident person,” Franklin told Matchroom Boxing shortly after arriving in the U.K. in early November. “I don’t want to say I’m overly cocky, but I come from a place where you kind of have to be confident in yourself because not a lot of people believe in you. Where I come from gave me the confidence I have, and hard work and dedication adds to the confidence.
“[A win over Whyte] changes my family’s life — my kids, my girlfriend, my mother, my sisters, my brothers. It gives me the opportunity to have generational wealth, and [I can] take care of the people who take care of me.”
Like most professionals, Franklin refused to disclose his game plan ahead of fight night. However, if his lofty prediction on how this fight will unfold becomes a reality, then Whyte is in for a long night.
“I can box, I can brawl — it’s basically whatever opportunity presents itself,” said Franklin in earnest. “We’ve been watching Dillian, and I see certain stuff that he does. We’re gonna box him, we’re gonna brawl him – whenever the opportunity presents itself for the right style, we’re gonna turn it on.
“I visualize myself with my hand raised and, potentially, with him on the floor. I don’t see it any other way, I don’t think he can beat me. I feel that he’s taking me lightly because of who he is and his status, but I’m here to show him on the 26th.”
Franklin’s best triumphs came against Rydell Booker (UD 10) and Jerry Forrest (SD 10) in 2019. He had excellent momentum at that point, but managerial issues led to an involuntary two-and-a-half-year layoff. The Michigan native knocked off the ring rust with a warm-up bout in May against Rodney Moore, scoring a fifth-round knockout.
Who is Jermaine Franklin fighting?
Dillian Whyte (28-3, 19 KOs) is a 35-year-old former world title challenger and one of the most experienced fighters in the heavyweight division.
“The Body Snatcher” holds signature wins over Derek Chisora (SD 12, KO 11), Joseph Parker (UD 12) and Oscar Rivas (UD 12).

All three of Whyte’s career setbacks have come against top-flight opposition: Anthony Joshua (TKO 7), Alexander Povetkin (KO 5), and Tyson Fury (TKO 6). Whyte is currently rated No. 5 by Ring Magazine and No. 6 by the WBC.
