Terence Crawford knows he has an expiration date in boxing. The WBO welterweight champion, 35, is not fighting forever. Until then, he will continue to enhance his legacy on his way to a fight with Errol Spence Jr.

First, Crawford must get past David Avanesyan on December 10. The fight for the WBO title takes place inside the CHI Health Center in Nebraska.

Not long ago, Crawford had the idea of hanging up his gloves. The former undisputed light-welterweight champion has prolonged his career more than most anticipated, including himself.

“I always said I wanted to retire at 33,” Crawford said on The Good Fight with Kate Abdo, via Boxing Scene. “I did, I wanted to retire at 33 but here I am at 35 still going. I just love the sport. I just feel like I’m still at the top of my game and I really want that Errol Spence fight. I feel like that’s the fight that I really wanted, just to prove a point.”

A fight with IBF, WBC, and WBA champion Errol Spence Jr. is always on his mind. 2022 was thought to be the year they would clash, but that was not the case. A free agent, Crawford is not represented by any top promotion and will attempt to book the Spence fight himself.

“Bud’s” last fight was in 2021 against Shawn Porter. He has won nine straight wins via KO/TKO. Crawford faces someone in Avanesyan who is on a six-fight win streak. The European welterweight champion has won all six of those bouts via TKO.
