Fighting Erika Cruz for undisputed featherweight gold means everything to Amanda Serrano. “The Real Deal” is ready to make history inside Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater on February 4.

Serrano, a seven-division champion, beat Heather Hardy in 2019 for the WBO and WBC featherweight titles. She knocked out Daniela Romina Bermudez in 2021 for the IBO title and beat Sarah Mahfoud for the IBF and The Ring belts in 2022. If she beats WBA champion Cruz, she would become Puerto Rico’s first undisputed champion, male or female.

Already a Guinness World Record holder in women’s boxing, Serrano has never been an undisputed champion. While initially not giving it much thought, the 34-year-old wants to join in on the the recent trend other boxers like Katie Taylor and Claressa Shields have experienced.

“It wasn’t always a dream of ours, or the team, it wasn’t always the main goal to become undisputed champion,” Serrano told ESPN. “I was satisfied just being the WBO champion at featherweight, but now, that’s the era.

“Everybody is doing it, so I said, ‘You know what, I want to become part of that.’”

In her way is a determined Cruz. A silver medalist in the 2011 Pan American Games, Cruz lost the second bout of her career and has won 14 in a row since. In 2021, she beat Jelena Mrdjenovich for the WBA featherweight title and has defended it twice. Her last bout was a rematch against Mrdjenovich in September, where Cruz won via unanimous decision.

To watch Serrano vs. Cruz, you must watch it via DAZN.
