NFL world reacts to Titans firing GM Jon Robinson immediately after A.J. Brown revenge game

The Titans made a surprising move on Tuesday ahead of their Week 14 meeting with the Jaguars.

It didn’t have anything to do with the players on their roster. Instead, it was about the man who created the roster.

The Titans announced that they had fired general manager Jon Robinson after seven years with the team. Robinson had a winning record in each of his seven seasons with the Titans and helped them reach the playoffs four times, so the decision to move on from him raised some eyebrows.

It isn’t yet clear why exactly the Titans decided to shake up their front office at this point and roll with a Ryan Cowden and Mike Vrabel partnership there for the rest of the season.

That said, many members of the NFL world couldn’t help but notice the timing of the move. Notably, it came after Tennessee’s 35-10 loss to the Eagles which, in and of itself, wasn’t a major shock.

However, former Titans receiver A.J. Brown had a massive performance in the contest. He totaled eight catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and some believed that ended up being the death knell for Robinson’s tenure.

Robinson and the Titans elected to trade Brown amid a contract dispute between the two sides during the 2022 NFL offseason. Vrabel appeared dissatisfied with the trade when it occurred during the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, though he later supported Robinson during their post-draft news conference.

Brown has gone on to thrive in Philadelphia while the Titans have struggled to get consistent production at the receiver spot this season. Rookie Treylon Burks, Brown’s intended replacement, has shown flashes in recent weeks, but he still hasn’t had nearly the impact that Brown did on the Titans’ passing game.

With that said, did Brown’s big game against Tennessee ultimately seal Robinson’s fate? Plenty of speculation about that circulated on Twitter as notable NFL personalities and fans reacted to the news.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting that the Titans’ decision had to do with the overall roster that Robinson had assembled — not just the A.J. Brown trade.

Still, it seems that the NFL world is happy to credit Brown for serving as the catalyst behind Robinson’s dismissal and exacting the ultimate revenge.
