Former Premier League player Morgan Schneiderlin is set to join A-League Men outfit Western Sydney Wanderers, according to reports from Foot Mercato.

The 33-year-old currently plays for OGC Nice in France’s top division, Ligue 1.

After signing for the club in 2020, it appears that an exit is now likely from the French Riviera, with a move to Australia now on the cards for the defensive midfielder.

He has not made a single appearance this season and is expected to depart the club as a free agent.

A French international with 15 caps, Schneiderlin’s experience and notability would be a significant coup for the A-League Men.

If he is to join the Wanderers, he would link up with former Lyon defender Marcelo.

Led by coach Mark Rudan, the red and black have had a strong season thus far, sitting in third position on the ladder.

After progressing through Strasbourg’s youth system, Schneiderlin enjoyed a 12-year stint in England.

He joined Southampton in 2008, making 231 appearances with the South Coast-based club and helping them achieve promotion to the English Premier League in the 2011/12 season.

In 2015 he joined Manchester United but secured a transfer to Everton just two years later.

Schneiderlin remained in Merseyside until 2020, before moving to his current club, Nice.
