Michael van Gerwen’s networth, career earnings and what he has won at the World Darts Championship

Michael van Gerwen has long since established himself as one of darts’ all-time greats having already won every major title that’s available to him on multiple occasions. What’s more, the Dutchman is still only 33-years-old – a spritely age for a professional darts player.

It seemed apparent that Van Gerwen was going to be one of the greats from a very young age. He defeated Martin Adams in the final to win the 2006 BDO World Masters and hit a live televised nine-dart finish against compatriot Raymond van Barneveld in the 2007 Masters of Darts a few months later. He was aged just 17 when performing both these feats – the youngest to ever do so.

It wasn’t too long before he moved to the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) circuit, and although it took him a few years to find his feet, he claimed his first major title there at the 2012 World Grand Prix. He has been winning titles ever since, and goes into the 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship as the favourite to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy for a fourth time.

Michael van Gerwen networth: How much money has he won in the PDC World Darts Championship?

According to website CelebrityNetworth, the Dutchman is worth an estimated $6million (£4.97m).

Prior to the 2022/23 edition, Michael van Gerwen has competed at 15 PDC World Darts Championships.

From the competition alone, Van Gerwen has won an estimated £1,685,000 in prize money.

Van Gerwen’s breakthrough in the Championship came in 2013 when he reached the final, but he lost to Phil Taylor 7-4 in title match. This would be the last of Taylor’s 16 world titles, and the first year that the Sid Waddell Trophy was presented. That run banked Van Gerwen £100,000.

The following year, Van Gerwen was back in the final, and this time it would be him lifting the trophy after a 7-4 defeat of Peter Wright. The triumph saw him cash £250,000.

The PSV Eindhoven fan has since won the title on two further occasions in 2017 (£350,000) and 2019 (£500,000).
