The 76ers have been rolling as of late, winning 20 of their last 25 games and surging up to No. 3 in the Eastern Conference standings behind the Celtics and Bucks. Joel Embiid is performing at an MVP level, and James Harden may lead the NBA in assists by the end of the season.
But one member of Philadelphia’s rotation who hasn’t been playing a major role in the team’s recent success could be on the move ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline.

On Monday, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Kings are “monitoring the availability” of Sixers guard Matisse Thybulle. Sacramento could target the 25-year-old in order to have “a more defensive-minded option on the perimeter,” per Stein.
Thybulle, the No. 20 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, has already landed on the All-Defensive Second Team twice in his career. He has quickly established himself as one of the most disruptive perimeter stoppers in the league, and he is comfortable taking on the opponent’s No. 1 option each night.
Unfortunately for Thybulle, his offense hasn’t caught up to his defense. He is a career 32.5 percent 3-point shooter, and his inability to consistently hit attempts from beyond the arc can shrink the 76ers’ spacing. That’s why he has only averaged 12.1 minutes through 45 games this season.
It’s worth noting that Thybulle has seen an uptick in scoring lately. He scored 10 points in a win against the Nets on Wednesday, and he contributed 10 points in a loss to the Magic on Monday. He drilled two 3-pointers in each of those games.
Matisse Thybulle contract details
Thybulle is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2022-23 campaign. Thybulle and the Sixers reportedly “held brief conversations” about a contract extension before the October deadline, but they were unable to reach an agreement.
Here are the terms of his current contract:
