Leonard Fournette injury update: Buccaneers RB suffers hip injury vs. Seahawks as Rachaad White stars

The Buccaneers finished their Germany game against the Seahawks a bit shorthanded in the backfield.

Leonard Fournette suffered a hip injury in the second half of the contest. Per the NFL Network broadcast, he was spotted on the sideline with a wrap on his midsection and was walking around without his helmet.

The Buccaneers announced that the malady made Fournette “doubtful” to return.

It isn’t exactly clear when Fournette suffered the injury. His final snap of the game came on a trick play gone awry — which saw him throw a pass to Tom Brady that was intercepted — but it didn’t appear that he was hit on the play.

Either way, Fournette didn’t return to the contest after his interception. That left the Buccaneers with just two healthy running backs on the active roster — Rachaad White and KeShawn Vaughn.

The good news was that White had been outperforming Fournette for most of the day before the veteran’s injury. The rookie made his first start of the season and racked up more total yardage than Fournette even before his injury.

White also had a nice stiff arm on Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs during his longest carry of the day, a 29-yard scamper.

Fournette was still productive. He generated 57 yards and Tampa Bay’s lone rushing touchdown on 14 carries.

But given White’s success — 22 carries, 105 yards — it’s fair to wonder whether the rookie has passed Fournette on the Buccaneers’ running back depth chart.
