Two perennial college basketball powerhouses clash as Kentucky takes on Michigan State in the opening game of the 2022 Champions Classic.
John Calipari’s squad is ranked No. 4 in the country, and it has started its season with a pair of wins over Howard and Duquesne. The Wildcats have another exciting class of freshmen that could lead them to a deep tournament run in 2023, headlined by combo guard Cason Wallace and small forward Chris Livingston.
On the other side, Tom Izzo’s Spartans are 1-1. They beat Northern Arizona in their season-opener before dropping a heartbreaker on Friday, losing 64-63 to No. 2-ranked Gonzaga on the deck of the USS Lincoln. They are led by junior guard A.J. Hoggard along with center Mady Sissoko, who played well despite a touch matchup against Drew Timme last time out.
