Jeff Saturday suffers unexpected consequence of becoming NFL head coach: Relinquishing his fantasy team to Eric Decker

Jeff Saturday has had an absolute roller coaster of a week. He was unexpectedly named interim head coach of the Colts after only having coached high school football in the past, and he secured his first win Sunday over the Raiders that is being treated as more of a bottoming out for Las Vegas than it is an inspiring win for Indianapolis.

However, one small vignette really showcases just how abruptly everything happened for Saturday: The fact he had to give up his fantasy team to Eric Decker in a league that is comprised of former Broncos and Colts players.

It was reported by Melanie Collins on the CBS broadcast that Saturday was told by the commissioner of their league — which also includes Peyton Manning — that control would be given to Decker.

Decker said he had “a lot of work” to do.

Saturday, who was working as an analyst before this sudden gig, also tweeted the day before Halloween about how the Raiders looked this year before beating them two weeks later.

It’s been a fascinating turnaround for a move that was much-maligned by NFL media, with Bill Cowher calling it a “disgrace.” Saturday and the Colts moved to 4-5 with the win, as they continue to fight for supremacy in the AFC South, which is surprisingly within their grasp.
