The Celtics were already missing Al Horford, Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III for Wednesday night’s matchup against the 76ers. Then, Jaylen Brown joined the injury list.

Brown, who missed four games in January after suffering an adductor strain, also sat out Monday night’s game against the Pistons because of a non-COVID illness.

Now, the All-Star is out with a facial fracture. Here’s everything we know about Brown’s setback and the latest news on when he may return to the court.

What is Jaylen Brown’s injury?

With less than two minutes remaining in the second quarter of Wednesday’s game, Brown missed a 3-pointer from the right corner. As he hustled to get the rebound, he was met by an inadvertent elbow to the face from teammate Jayson Tatum.

Brown immediately went down and held his face before heading straight to the locker room. The team later announced that he would not return, initially referring to the injury as a facial contusion.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania later reported that Brown had suffered a facial fracture.

Brown exited the game with four points, three assists and two rebounds in 18 minutes.

How long will Jaylen Brown be out?

Brown could be sidelined through the All-Star break, according to Charania. He will be evaluated by a specialist on Thursday.

“He was quiet. He was in a lot of pain,” Celtics guard Malcolm Brogdon told reporters after Boston’s 106-99 win. “[I] just told him to feel better. There was nothing I think we could do for him.

“But he was in a lot of pain when he left. We’ll pray for him.”

Entering Wednesday’s contest, Brown was averaging 27.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 49.0 percent from the field and 33.4 percent from the 3-point line.
