SYDNEY, Feb. 9, 2023 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Basketball Magic, an Australian-owned sports management company focused on basketball development at the grassroots level, today announced a multiyear collaboration for Basketball Magic to launch and operate the first NBA Basketball School in Australia, in Sydney later this month and additional locations across the country in the future.
NBA Basketball School is a global network of tuition-based basketball skills development programs open to youth players ages 7-18.
Located at the new state-of-the-art facility at Cranbrook School in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, NBA Basketball School Australia will launch on Monday, Feb. 27 and is open to players of all skill levels across Sydney, NSW.
Basketball Magic has also named Nico Loureiro, former NBA Latin America Youth Basketball Operations Lead and NBA Global Academy coach, as Technical Director of NBA Basketball School Australia. The NBA Basketball School curriculum, which is designed to develop players and provide parents, coaches and organisations with a better understanding of the process of improvement, has been developed by the NBA’s International Basketball Operations department in consultation with current and former NBA coaches, players, and player development specialists.
Since 2017, NBA Basketball Schools have been launched or announced in Argentina, Brazil, China, Dominican Republic, India, Italy, Kuwait, Lithuania, Mexico, Spain, the United Arab Emirates and Uruguay.
“NBA Basketball School provides an additional avenue for young players to learn the game and refine their skills under the tutelage of established coaches with proven training techniques,” said NBA Asia Basketball Operations Associate Vice President Carlos Barroca.
“Together with Basketball Magic, beginners and more advanced players alike will have access to best-in-class training to elevate their game and help them better contribute to their local club and state teams.”
