Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill scores bizarre TD vs. Chargers, leaving NFL world stunned: ‘Never seen a play like that’

Tyreek Hill has been one of the top receivers in the NFL this season, but he hadn’t scored any touchdowns quite like the one he scored in the first half of “Sunday Night Football” in Week 14.

With just under 10 minutes left in the first half, the Dolphins handed off to Cedrick Wilson Jr., who plunged forward for 6 yards. Wilson fumbled at the end of the play, leading to a scrum.

The ball bounced around and eventually it made its way out of the pile.

Enter Hill, who looped around, recovered, and then ran 57 yards for a touchdown to help bring the Dolphins to three points behind the Chargers.

An alternate angle that shows Hill’s progression on the play showed just how odd it was.

It was Hill’s sixth touchdown of the season, and to say it came in unconventional fashion would be an understatement.

NFL Twitter got a kick out of the ridiculous play. Seeing weird touchdowns isn’t uncommon, but this one required so many weird bounces, it deserved special attention.

Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, but it’s always good to keep your head up. It paid off for Hill in this case as he got the Dolphins back in the game. As Cris Collinsworth said on the NBC broadcast: “Never seen a play like that in my life.”

Longtime Chargers fans may have had flashbacks to the “Holy Roller” play against the Raiders in 1978, despite very different circumstances. One would think they’re due to benefit from one of these types of plays. Alas, it wasn’t to be Sunday.
