DK Metcalf has made it a habit of playing non-football sports during the Seahawks’ offseason. He will do that once again in 2023.
This time, Metcalf will be taking part in the 2023 NBA Celebrity All-Star Game. He will be the only current NFL player to be involved in the game, though the contest will feature another all-time great receiver Calvin Johnson opposing Metcalf.
Seahawks fans will likely be excited at the prospect of watching Metcalf compete in another sport. Sure, it may not be the highest level of competition, but the superb athlete will have a chance to really show his greatness in a game against celebrity-level talents.
But why exactly is Metcalf participating in the event, and does he have any previous basketball experience? Here’s what to know about Metcalf’s athletic career as he adds another accolade to his list of non-NFL accomplishments.

Why is DK Metcalf in the NBA Celebrity All-Star Game?
Metcalf is in the NBA Celebrity All-Star Game for a simple reason. He likes basketball and wants to prove that he has the skills needed to be an NBA player.
Need proof? Metcalf told Kevin Garnett in a recent appearance on the Hall of Famer’s podcast that he believed that he could be a double-digit scorer in the NBA.
“I say I could play in the league and get 10 points,” Metcalf said. “Just from hustling. I’mma run all day. I can run the court.”
It’s no surprise that Metcalf has this type of confidence. He is an incredible athlete and has openly discussed his desire to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics. He previously competed in an Olympic track meet and hasn’t been afraid to try his hand at events like MLB’s celebrity softball game.
Now, he will give the NBA’s celebrity game a go. And while he will only be playing against celebrity-level competition, he will still get a chance to live out one of his high school dreams.
