Canelo blasts Messi on Twitter after video shows Argentina star apparently cleaning floor with Mexico jersey

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is ready to defend his country against all who he believes insults it. That includes international soccer icons. 

Canelo, the undisputed super-middleweight champion from Mexico, took exception to the fact that Lionel Messi, the captain of the Argentine National Team, disrespected Mexico.

Below is the video in question. 

An enraged Canelo has gone on a Twitter rant, sharing the video in question to anyone who will listen. The 32-year-old even sent a message to Messi, stating, “I hope he asked god that I don’t find him.”

Canelo (58-2-2) is considered one of the greatest boxers to come out of Mexico, winning gold in four weight classes. Starting his career competing in Mexico, Canelo has recently fought around Cinco de Mayo each year, which generates significant buzz. He has beaten the likes of Shane Mosley, Erislandy Lara, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Daniel Jacobs, and Gennadiy Golovkin. Canelo’s last fight was a unanimous decision win against Golovkin in a trilogy bout in September.

Canelo underwent hand surgery and will reportedly return to action in the middle half of 2023. 

Messi 35, is considered one of the greatest soccer players of all time. He has won multiple La Liga and Copa del Rey titles and is a multi-time UEFA Champions League and Super Cup winner. Messi has won three FIFA World Cups. Playing the majority of his career for Barcelona, Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.

Continuing his rant on social media, Canelo took aim at Messi and what he does on his own time. 

“Just like I respect Argentina, he must respect Mexico. I don’t talk about the country (Argentina), I talked about Messi and what he did.” 

Sergio Aguero, a former teammate of Messi’s, attempted to defuse the situation by stating that Canelo doesn’t know what happens in a soccer changing room. He then explains how shirts are always on the floor after games.

Canelo has since responded to multiple people on Twitter regarding the situation, including a renowned doctor and various journalists and individuals in his mentions. 

It does not appear to be an intentional act. Messi has not yet responded to Canelo’s posts.
