Brazil vs. Serbia prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for World Cup 2022 Group G

Betting favorites Brazil are set to begin their 2022 FIFA World Cup as they take on UEFA qualifiers Serbia in Group G.

Anything short of hoisting the trophy in this tournament would be considered a failure for Brazil head coach Tite, who will be under pressure to find results on the biggest stage. There are a host of players who could be in their last chance for glory as well, most notably for 38-year-old Brazil captain Thiago Silva.

Both teams feature in-form attackers, with Brazil talisman Neymar one of Europe’s hottest strikers at PSG, and Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic ready to line up for Serbia.

For two teams with a good chance to escape from Group G, here’s what to expect from the big early matchup.

Brazil vs. Serbia odds

Brazil are expected to emerge victorious, entering as heavy favorites over their European counterparts. Still, Serbia are given a decent amount of respect against the World Cup favorites.

The Eagles are thought to have a decent chance at scoring, pushing the “yes” selection on both teams to score almost to even money, a surprising feat against a team of Brazil’s caliber.

Brazil vs. Serbia: 3 things to know

Brazil vs. Serbia team news

Aside from missing fringe players Diego Carlos and Arthur, Brazil boast a clean bill of health. RicharlisonLucas Paqueta, and Bremer are all recovered from recent knocks, and the rest of the team is in pristine condition.

There could be questions around the status of in-form striker Aleksandar MItrovic who has been struggling with a foot injury since September international duty. He missed a number of Fulham matches between then and now, and while he’s on the roster and expected to play, it remains to be seen at what effectiveness. His strike partner Dusan Vlahovic is also a slight concern but is similarly expected to prove fit.

Brazil vs. Serbia key stats

  • Brazil have played Serbia twice prior to this World Cup matchup, both in friendlies over the last decade, winning each game via a shutout scoreline.
  • Neymar needs two goals to equal Pele as the top goalscorer in Brazil national team history, and three goals to stand alone.

Brazil vs. Serbia prediction

  • Moneyline lean: Brazil (-225)
  • Against the spread lean: Brazil -1.5 (+120)
  • Score prediction: Brazil 3-1 Serbia

Serbia are a very good side, and should escape this group to reach the knockout stage. Yet drawing Brazil in the opening match is as daunting as it gets.

The Selecao are this year’s deepest side by a country mile, and they have a ton of players in excellent form. While Serbia also have a good, in-form squad that will cause havoc for Switzerland and Cameroon, this match won’t be their opportunity to shine.

Brazil vs. Serbia: best bets and expert analysis

With Brazil expected to roll, there are still ways to approach this match to find openings in the odds and secure value on selections.

Brazil vs. Serbia best bet

  • Pick: Both teams to score
  • Odds: -110 (BetMGM)

Both these teams feature prolific attacks. The world knows of the incredible Brazil front line, with Neymar and Vinicius Jr, but Serbia are also not to be trifled with. Aleksandar Mitrovic is in good form, and if healthy, should lead the Serbia line, while Dusan Vlahovic is a threat as well.

Serbia have been shut out just once in their last 18 straight competitive games, coming against Norway in Nations League play back in June where Serbia put up 1.42 xG but couldn’t find the back of the net. During that stretch, they breached the likes of Portugal (twice), Sweden (twice), Slovenia, Norway, Ireland (twice), Hungary, Russia, and Scotland.

While none of those teams are Brazil, they’re all competitive European sides. Brazil, for their own part, will concede. Dating back to the start of 2021, Brazil have conceded goals to the likes of Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay, and South Korea.

Brazil vs. Serbia prop bet

  • Pick: Neymar to score
  • Odds: +110 (BetMGM)

Neymar has seven goals in his last nine Brazil matches, plus he has 15 goals in 20 matches across all competitions for PSG this season, and you’re going to give me plus odds against a Serbia team that can be beaten defensively?

These are criminal odds and you should take them immediately.

Brazil vs. Serbia flier bet

  • Pick: 1H result — Brazil & over 1.5 combined goals
  • Odds: +300 (BetMGM)

Some teams like to buy their time and wait for after halftime to open up, but not Brazil.

Of their four pre-World Cup friendlies, they only failed to score a first half goal against Japan, bagging nine of their 14 goals in those matches before the break. Prior to that, they managed to win the first half in seven of their final 11 World Cup qualifiers.

This Brazil team doesn’t hold back in the early stages of matches, so back the match to start quick.
