Australia have announced their squads for upcoming Test and ODI series, with no real surprises included in the mix.

Following an early exit from the T20 World Cup, the Aussies will now turn their attention to the longer formats of the game when they take on England and West Indies on home soil.

Pat Cummins will captain the ODI side for the first time when Australia take on England in a three-game series beginning on November 17th, with a 14-man squad announced on Tuesday morning.

National selector George Bailey said the focus will now turn to the World Cup next year and building underneath new leadership after Aaron Finch’s retirement.

“Our focus is to continue to build a squad with an eye to next year’s World Cup under Pat as the new ODI captain, so it’s an important series,” Bailey said.

“Travis Head returns in place of Aaron Finch having played well in Pakistan and Sri Lanka earlier in the year. He has demonstrated flexibility in the types of roles he can play in our ODI line-up.

“Our next opportunity in the ODI format will be in India next year which will allow us to experience similar conditions as for the World Cup in October.”

After spending recent months focusing on white-ball cricket, Australia will step back into the red-ball format this summer for series against both West Indies and South Africa at home.

Marcus Harris will return to the squad, which is similar to the squad that won The Ashes last summer, for a two-game series against the Windies beginning on November 30th.

“After some larger squads for the sub-continent tours over the winter, we have returned to a very similar squad to that which performed strongly last summer in comprehensively winning the Ashes,” Bailey said.

“Marcus Harris retains his place after continuing to perform for Gloucestershire in the English County competition and a strong start to the Marsh Sheffield Shield season.”
