Six months into a Premier League season like no other, leaders Arsenal and champions Manchester City finally face one another.
Wednesday’s Emirates Stadium clash was originally slated to take place in October and the rearranged date comes around with the Gunners three points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side at the summit having played a game less.
Mikel Arteta’s men have endured a wobble of late, drawing 1-1 at home to Brentford last time out on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Everton. It’s three games without a win in all competitions overall for Arsenal, after a much-changed XI lost 1-0 to City in the FA Cup last month.
However, City have been defeated in their past three away matches at Tottenham and Manchester United in the Premier League and Southampton in the Carabao Cup. The game also takes place against the backdrop of the Premier League charging City with over 100 alleged breaches of its competition rules over a nine-year period last week.

Arsenal vs Man City lineups
Long-term absentees Gabriel Jesus and Mohamed Elneny remain out for this match, and Emile Smith Rowe is still working back from a thigh injury. There are rumours Thomas Partey will miss this game, but otherwise Arsenal have a fully fit squad. Reiss Nelson has returned to training in his recovery from a thigh problem, but this match may come just a tad early for the young winger.
Selection-wise, there are very few true decisions for Mikel Arteta to make, as he’s established a pretty clear starting lineup. Oleksandr Zinchenko is ready to face his former club at left-back, while Gabriel Martinelli should be able to hold off the challenge of new signing Leandro Trossard, who scored his first Arsenal goal against Brentford.
Arsenal projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Ramsdale (GK) — White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko — Odegaard, Jorginho, Xhaka — Saka, Nketiah, Martinelli
The biggest focus for Man City will be on star striker Erling Haaland who was withdrawn over the weekend at halftime of the win over Aston Villa, leaving his status for today’s match uncertain. If Haaland can’t go, it would be Julian Alvarez to step in up front. Centre-back John Stones remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Guardiola will have choices to make at the left-back position, with Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis available for selection, while Ake could also feature on the left of a back three. Switching to a four-defender formation would mean a harsh sacrifice for a midfielder, either Ilkay Gundogan or Bernardo Silva, unless Guardiola drops Riyad Mahrez to instead put Silva out wide.
Man City projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Ederson (GK) — Walker, Dias, Laporte, Ake — Rodri, Silva — Mahrez, De Bruyne, Grealish — Haaland
