Former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua will seek his first win since he beat Kubrat Pulev in 2020 with a homecoming fight against Jermaine Franklin.

American Franklin was little-known until he took former Joshua victim Dillian Whyte to the scorecards in a bout some felt he was unfortunate not to win in November 2022.

Franklin has pledged to produce a conclusive result when he takes on Joshua, telling the judges to “stay home” on a night when he intends to cause a huge shock and put himself in title contention.

As Joshua bids to recover from two successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, here are some of the key details on his return against Franklin.

Anthony Joshua career record, titles won

A two-time British amateur champion at super-heavyweight, Joshua made his name by claiming gold in the same division at the 2012 Olympic Games and lived up to the hype surrounding his professional career by winning his first 22 fights between 2013 and 2018.

The boxer known as ‘AJ’ collected the British title by beating Whyte in 2015 and added the IBF title the following year; the WBA (Super) and IBO belts in an epic contest with Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium in 2017, and the WBO against Joseph Parker in 2018.

Joshua avenged his surprise defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr. (TKO 7) in 2019 with a victory in Diriyah that same year. Following the win over Pulev, he was unable to find a way past the unbeaten Usyk, losing points decisions in two fights. He has been inactive since the rematch, which took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in August 2022.

Jermaine Franklin career record, titles won

Looking to stay out of trouble, Franklin turned to the sport as a youngster.

With momentum on his side as a pro, he took more than two years out between 2019 and 2022 due to managerial issues. The American was forced to file for bankruptcy and took up work away from boxing.

Before facing Whyte, Franklin had won all 21 of his fights and moved within sight of the top 10 in the rankings. He will be a heavy underdog against Joshua because that was the first time he had traded at world level.

The 29-year-old’s first round against Whyte was his 100th as a professional and his first outside of the US. Franklin has a knockout ratio of almost 64%, while Joshua’s is more than 81%.
