Adam Doueihi has signed a one-year contract extension to remain at the West Tigers through until the end of the 2024 season.

“Adam is a local junior and a very important part of this club,” Tigers’ CEO Justin Pascoe said upon the announcement of the deal.

After making his NRL debut for South Sydney in 2018, the Balmain junior returned to his old stomping ground in 2020.

After enjoying a successful first two years at the club, Doueihi was restricted to just 11 appearances last season after suffering an ACL injury.

When he came back into the fold, he was played in the centres rather than in his favoured five-eighth role that led to some initial tension.

“I had a conversation with ‘Noddy’ [former interim coach Brett Kimmorley] just with some long-term questions about where the club saw me,” he revealed last year.

“It’s definitely in the halves. We spoke about that.”

The Tigers elected to move on from the pairing of Jackson Hastings and Luke Brooks, in favour of reverting to Douiehi and Brooks once again for 2023.

Content with the confirmation of his role in the side and under the guidance of new coach Tim Sheens, the Lebanese international has now committed to prolonging his stay at Concord.

“Adam has had a great pre-season,” Sheens said.

“He is a quality player, and he will play an important role in our team.”

The 25-year-old was believed to be in the running for the captaincy role in a side which has sought to bounce back after collecting the club’s first wooden spoon.

Api Koroisau – who was appointed skipper – along with Isaiah Papalii, John Bateman and David Klemmer have all been brought on board in an impressive recruitment drive.

“I’m really happy to extend my stay here at Wests Tigers,” Doueihi said.

“We’ve all trained hard in pre-season and our team is in great shape. For me personally, I’m fully fit and hoping to be the best I can be.”
