Antonio Conte returns to his old stomping ground this week as Tottenham take on AC Milan in Champions League action.

Spurs’ European campaign restarts with a trip to San Siro in a Round of 16 first-leg clash with Conte back at the stadium where he won the 2021 Serie A title with Inter Milan.

Tottenham have been knocked out at this stage in three of their last four Champions League appearances, with the exception being their 2-0 final defeat to Liverpool in 2019, whilst AC Milan are through to the knockouts for the first time since 2014.

Below are the projected starting lineups for both teams based on the latest news leading up to this crucial Champions League match.

AC Milan vs Tottenham lineups

Both Conte and opposite number Stefano Pioli are without key players through injury, with first-choice goalkeepers Mike Maignan and Hugo Lloris amongst the absentees.

England international Fikayo Tomori is a key absentee for the hosts, and Spurs have been hit by the news of Rodrigo Bentancur missing the remainder of the season due to knee surgery, with midfield partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg suspended for the first leg and Yves Bissouma also sidelined.

Veteran forward Olivier Giroud will lead the line for Pioli after netting four goals in the group stages, with Spurs looking to Harry Kane to continue his record-breaking recent form, which has seen him score four goals in his past six Premier League games.

Below are the projected starting lineups for both teams ahead of their match at San Siro on February 14.

AC Milan starting 11

(3-4-3): Tatarusanu (GK) — Calabria, Kjaer, Kalulu — Saelemaekers, Tonali, Krunic, Hernandez — Diaz, Giroud, Leao

  • Injured: Tomori, Maignan, Bennacer, Florenzi
  • Suspended:

Tatarusanu will continue to deputise in place of the injured Maignan, with Davide Calabria expected to return to the defence after coming off the bench in the 1-0 weekend win over Torino.

Tottenham starting 11

(3-4-3): Forster (GK) — Romero, Dier, Davies — Porro, Sarr, Skipp, Perisic — Kulusevski, Kane, Son

  • Injured: Lloris, Bentancur. Bissouma, Sessegnon
  • Suspended: Hojbjerg

Conte is boosted by the return of Cristian Romero following a domestic ban, but his midfield looks very lightweight with the absences of Bentancur and Hojbjerg.

Bissouma is still unavailable, with Oliver Skipp set to partner Pape Sarr in the engine room, flanked by January signing Pedro Porro and former Inter winger Ivan Perisic.
