Aaron Rodgers hints at Packers exit in cryptic ‘Pat McAfee Show’ comment before ‘darkness’ retreat

What would the NFL offseason be without some vague comments from Aaron Rodgers?

Despite reports indicating he was entering a four-day ‘darkness’ retreat on Monday, the Packers quarterback made his weekly “Pat McAfee Show” appearance on Tuesday and had a curious remark when McAfee mentioned the teams that might pursue him.

“Eighteen years, man. That’s always gonna be home,” Rodgers told McAfee, referring to Green Bay.

While Rodgers has made it clear he won’t have a decision about his playing future until he re-emerges from the darkness, he hasn’t sounded so reflective about his time with the Packers when he’s weighed his future in the past.

Rodgers first raised eyebrows after Green Bay’s season-ending loss to the Lions, when he said he needed time to figure out whether he would retire, stay with the Packers, or play elsewhere.

NFL Network reported over the weekend that Green Bay is willing to facilitate a trade if Rodgers does want out. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said on Sunday that the Jets have already inquired about his availability.

At this point, though, there isn’t expected to be any movement until Rodgers’ journey into the darkness ends.

Rodgers, who was in a well-lit room when he joined McAfee on Tuesday, used the opportunity to hit back at reports he was beginning the retreat on Monday.

“When it comes to me, they don’t know s—,” Rodgers said about reporters trying to figure out a timeline for his next steps.

The four-time MVP said reporters don’t have sources in his “inner circle” and therefore don’t report accurate information about him. “I’ve had this plan on the books for four months, for the same time,” Rodgers said.

While only Rodgers knows what his calendar says, he did confirm he’s going dark later this week. Only then can we start to speculate about when he might tell the world his plans for 2023.
