San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans has emerged as a top candidate for the Houston Texans’ head coaching job, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Friday, per sources.
Ryans has led consecutive top-three defenses in the NFL since becoming the 49ers DC two seasons ago. The 38-year-old coordinator is one of the top head coaching candidates during this hiring cycle after being interviewed by multiple teams.
A second-round draft pick by the Texans, Ryans won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2006 and spent 10 seasons in the NFL as a linebacker.
