A man and a woman have been hospitalised after being injured in a violent home invasion in Sydney’s west.

The dramatic incident took place about 2.50am on Wednesday at a home on Railway St, Yennora, following reports of a break-in.

Police have been told the occupants were asleep when four people – wearing masks and hooded jumpers – forced entry to the home and entered the bedroom of a 39-year-old man.

They demanded money before stabbing him in the chest, causing a small puncture wound.

Two women, aged 52 and 63, heard the disturbance and upon leaving their bedrooms, the younger woman was struck in the face with a bat.

The older woman locked herself in a room and attempted to contact police when the group kicked in the door and took her mobile phone. She was not physically injured.

The injured man and woman were treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital, both in a stable condition. He has since been released while she remains under observation.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
