A fraud charge against the mother of international music star The Kid Laroi has been dropped.
Sloane Howard, 51, was due to face a hearing in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday after she was accused of using a man’s credit card to purchase cosmetic services worth nearly $850 in 2018.
However, police withdrew the charge against her.
The mother of the teenage music star, whose real name is Charlton Howard, had pleaded not guilty to one count of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception earlier this year.
Previously in the matter, she failed to appear at court and had no legal representation in July last year. Ms Howard was found guilty and convicted in her absence.
Magistrate Susan McIntyre found the offence had been proven and fined Ms Howard $1000.
She was also ordered to pay $849 in compensation to the business.
The 51-year-old quickly submitted an annulment application to have the decision cancelled.
She faced court a month later where she was granted the annulment with the hearing due to go ahead on Wednesday.
But Magistrate Sharon Freund on Wednesday was told the charge was withdrawn and the matter was dismissed entirely.
Police originally alleged the mother of the pop star used the man’s credit card to spend $850 at the Laser Clinic in Marrickville on August 8, 2018.
It was alleged she committed the offence the same year her then 15-year-old son was gaining recognition for his musical talent as a rapper, singer and songwriter.
Mother and son returned to Australia in late May, 2022, for the local leg of a world tour.
But the tour was interrupted when Ms Howard had to hand herself in to police over the old fraud charge on May 26 when police executed an outstanding warrant.
The Kid Laroi has often spoken of the lengths his mother went to provide for him and claims he owes his success to Ms Howard.
He has also made public his upbringing in public housing and how his family was evicted from a block of units when he was young.
Ms Howard, the pop star and his brother Austin now all live in Los Angeles since he shot to stardom in 2020.
The Kid Laroi has collaborated with Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, recently signing with manager Scooter Braun.
