Tributes have flowed for a young woman tragically killed in a traffic incident in Melbourne’s west earlier in the week, while her local South Sudanese community on Thursday launched a funding plea to help the family pay for a funeral.

Gol Luk, 24, died as a result of head injuries in the western Melbourne suburb of Sunshine on Monday, after police allege she was dragged along in a car before striking her head against a parked vehicle.

Police allege Luk’s younger sister, 22-year-old Aysai Luk, was driving the car, and has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, failing to stop and failing to render assistance.

Aysai was bailed in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Aleza Gwit, the deceased woman’s mother, said her “heart almost stopped” after the incident.

“My heart is broken. It’s tough, I can’t process it,” Ms Gwit told Nine News.

Witness Daniel Gomez told reporters others had rushed to Gol’s aid.

“Just trying to calm her down because the blood was just coming out left, right and centre.”

“It was pretty horrific what I had to deal with,” Mr Gomez told another reporter.
