The desperate search for a teenager who disappeared from a lake in Victoria’s north after a boat accident is still ongoing, more than 24 hours after he was last seen.
Two 16-year-old boys were fishing from a small boat on Lake Mulwala before 9am on Sunday when a wave overturned their tinny and the pair were swept into the water.
A pair of men saw the boys in trouble, swam to their aid and managed to pull one of the boys to shore.
The men returned to the area and were unable to find the second boy.
Mulwala Ski Club water-sport co-ordinator Peter O’Neill said the situation was devastating for all involved.
“We raced to put our boat in as fast as possible and we got there as soon as possible. We were there within about 15 minutes … but we were obviously too late,” he told ABC News.
The search was suspended on Sunday evening and restarted on Monday, with police divers, Search and Rescue, Air Wing, Water Police and SES involved.
Despite overnight patrols, the search continues more than 24 hours after the boy was last seen.
Lake Mulwala is a popular holiday destination situated between Bundalong and Yarrawonga in the Hume region that straddles the Victoria-NSW border.
