One man has died, and another is in a critical condition, after they were caught in a rip at a Sydney beach.
Emergency services were called to Shelly Beach, off Ewos Parade, in Cronulla at about 1.50pm Saturday to reports three men were in trouble in the surf.
Two of the three men were pulled unconscious from the water by surf lifesavers. Paramedics tried to revive one of the men, but he couldn’t be saved.
The other two men were taken to St George Hospital; one in a critical condition, the other stable.
NSW Police continue inquiries in the area, and will prepare a report for the coroner.
At the time of writing, the man who drowned hasn’t been formally identified, and his age is yet to be determined.
This latest drowning incident takes the New South Wales drowning death toll to 14 since December 1.
More details as they come to hand.
