A motorcyclist has died following a collision with an allegedly stolen ute in the NSW Hunter Region on Thursday night.
The vehicle was pursued by police after it was allegedly taken from a Wangi Wangi address in Lake Macquarie on Thursday afternoon.
Police officers had spotted the vehicle on Main Rd in Toronto at about 10pm and pursued the driver to Fennell Bay when he allegedly failed to stop as directed.
The driver allegedly hit the male motorcyclist near the intersection of Main Rd and Bay Rd “a short time later”, a NSW Police spokesperson said.
When his car became stuck following the collision, the ute driver allegedly stole a second vehicle and fled the scene.
Police rendered first aid to the motorcyclist, who is yet to be identified, but he died at the scene.
“The ute continued onto the footpath and through the front fence of a home before stopping when it became jammed between the fence and the house,” the spokesperson said.
“The alleged driver of the utility was arrested a short time later in the second stolen vehicle.”
The intersection of Bay Rd and Main Rd was partially closed on Friday morning, with drivers advised to avoid the scene.
A critical incident team from the Hunter Valley Police District has begun an investigation into “all circumstances surrounding the incident”.
NSW Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
