The 162nd running of the great race is set to throw up some incredible storylines as horses from all over the world try to launch another raid on the most iconic trophy in Australian racing.

There was some huge drama on the morning of the Melbourne Cup with another fancied runner scratched by Racing Victoria’s vets.

Lunar Flare was ruled out on the morning of the race after presenting with lameness on Monday. It leaves the field for the $8 million, 3200m classic cut to just 22 runners.

For everyone around Australia who wishes they were at Flemington today for all the glitz and glamour of the Melbourne Cup, don’t be too jealous. The weather forecasts are for a top of 14C with up to 10mm of rain expected with chances of late thunderstorms and hail.
