One of Australia’s most amazing private gardens has changed hands in an eight-figure deal between two of the country’s biggest names in landscape design.
Paul Bangay’s celebrated Denver home between Kyneton and Daylesford has been snapped up by Jamie Durie and his business partners to be turned into a luxury retreat.
It’s understood the property — judged Victoria’s best home by the Herald Sun in 2022 — sold for more than $11m to Durie, hotelier and financier Dominic Lambrinos and investment banker Kim Jacobs after they incorporated an Bangay’s ‘The Lodge’ guest accommodation site into the package.

Forbes Global Properties agent Michael Gibson had Bangay’s home, known as Stonefields, on the market for $8m-$8.8m and said the addition of the other site put the offer above all others.
“There’ll be disappointed people who missed out, I know that,” he said.
“There were a couple there who were very keen to own it, but the joining of the two made a compelling case for Paul to move on and sell it.”

Mr Gibson said as a property and retreat it was “definitely the home of the year in Victoria and maybe Australia”.
“You just can’t repeat something like that unless Paul does it again,” he said.
“People really saw it as a sanctuary and we had people who had travelled extensively around the world who had been to Europe on dozens of occasions and they found this as something the equivalent of living abroad.”
The Durie-led trio also purchased a 110ha site at Tasmania’s Table Cape in September last year.
