“The Hepburn Treehouse” in Hepburn Springs was purchased by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child actor Hannah Fredericksen.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child actor Hannah Fredericksen recently purchased a mid-century-style Hepburn Springs “treehouse” cabin after it cast a spell upon her.

Fredericksen plays multiple roles in the production including Polly Chapman, Moaning Myrtle, Fleur and Lily Potter.

Fredericksen said she had always loved Hepburn Springs, near Daylesford, “for its landscape, creative community and ridiculously good food and wine”.

“So when I saw this incredible A-frame cabin pop up I jumped at it,” Fredericksen said.

“I purchased the house as we were rehearsing to open the new and re-imagined version of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in April and settled in June.”

She was backstage at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre, where the show is staged, when she received a call saying her offer to buy the property had been accepted.

Fredericksen said she purchased the home, which she named “The Hepburn Treehouse” for its secluded location among the surrounding trees, to use as a retreat and get back to nature.

She rents the cabin out to guests for short stays when she is cannot be there to enjoy the cathedral-style roof and spa bath.

“It is my haven in the hills and I love to escape out there as much as possible,” she said.

“However, my current schedule as an actor has me performing six nights a week in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, so I figured if I couldn’t be out there enjoying it myself, someone else should.”

Fredericksen said the 2005-built home underwent “a very fast five-week facelift” after she bought it.

Painting the interior and exterior, replacing a splashback and the built-in wardrobes, installing curtains and replastering were on her to-do list.

“I had to learn how to do a lot of things on the fly and with the help of the internet, I had certainly never plastered a wall before this,” Fredericksen said.

Her vision was to create “a warm and inviting space which satisfied the eyes and the heart”.

“The bed faces the wall of windows so when you wake up in the morning you feel as though you’re laying underneath the canopy,” Fredericksen added.

“The space is also filled with lots of my personal treasures – my collection of plays and books, art and crockery and is very much inspired by mid-century modern in terms of style.”

Some visitors have been thrilled to stay in a cabin with a Harry Potter connection.

“I’ve certainly had some guests make the connection to the fact I’m performing in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ and who have enjoyed the irony that Harry Potter books are among those you can borrow to read while you stay,” she said.
