Family of Can Pahali confirm Sydney man killed in Turkey earthquake

A Sydney man has died following the devastating earthquake in Turkey.

The disaster has now claimed the lives of more than 12,000 people, with the death toll expected to keep rising.

The family of missing Glebe man Can “John” Pahali, who was in Turkey visiting his family when the 7.8-magnitude quake hit, have confirmed the man has been found dead.

“A sad update. In recent hours John’s body has been recovered from earthquake rubble in Turkiye,” a Facebook post to the Glebe community forum read.

“He has had a wonderful six months reuniting with his large family in different areas of his country. He is now with his beloved Jesus.

“God bless you John. We shall miss you so much.”

Three other Australians are still missing.

Australia has sent a team of up to 72 personnel to Turkey to assist local authorities in their ongoing search and rescue mission.
