You could be forgiven for thinking this Unley house is a historic character home.

The charming residence at 23 Edmund Ave has actually been expertly designed and built to look just like the heritage homes that surround it.

It has hit the market for the first time since it was built in 2020 and selling agent Daniel Oliver, of Harris Real Estate, said many people thought it was an older home that had been renovated and extended.

“It deceives a lot of people,” said Mr Oliver, who is selling the property with Daniel Stewart.

“It’s probably the best replica build anyone has seen in the area in a long time.

“It’s become a show home.”

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom home epitomises modern living, with its minimal and sophisticated style, sleek finishings and smart home technology throughout.

Floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights in the main living area, a central play room, a butler’s pantry with plumbed coffee station, a large alfresco area with a built-in kitchen and barbecue, a wood-fire pizza oven, and a separate retreat or gym with sauna are among its many highlights.

Mr Oliver said it had proved popular among a range of buyers, including young professionals and families, in its two weeks on the market.

“It’s been very attractive with grandparents too – they want the low-maintenance home with space for grandkids,” he said.

Owners Kurt and Amanda Strazdins, who co-founded design and construction business Aube Projects, built the home, where they have lived for the past three years.

“There was a derelict house there and it had been for, I believe, 20 years,” Mr Strazdins said.

“It was in complete disrepair.”

He said they did a lot of research to ensure that, despite being a new home, their version would replicate and fit in with the surrounding heritage homes.

They loved many aspects of it but Mr Strazdins said the master suite, which felt “almost like a day spa”, and the main living areas stood out most for them.

“The open living, dining and kitchen – that whole area has been fantastic,” he said.

“We also really like warmth in a home.”

He said they initially planned to stay in the home for many years but as their children have got older, they have decided to move to an acreage property in the Adelaide Hills.

“We never would have expected to be out this quickly,” Ms Strazdins said.

“None of what we did was for anyone else, however we’re very practically-minded people, which translates into all aspects of the home.

“We put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this.”

The home is being sold via a best offers campaign, which closes on February 7 at 11am.
