A Toronto home of a singer-songwriter couple, complete with a recording studio in the former coach house, has hit the market for $7.995 million.
Located in the “eclectic and coveted” South Rosedale neighborhood of the city, the 1907 home “is a classic example of an asymmetrical Queen Anne style with a broad sweeping roof and grand street presence,” according to the listing with Gillian Oxley of Oxley Real Estate.
Designed by Toronto architect Samuel Townsend in 1907 for the son of a local department store owner, the 9,000-square-foot residence boasts a number of original details, according to the listing. Features of the home include paneled walls, stained-glass doors and ornate ceilings, as well as hardwood and checkerboard flooring.
“What’s wonderful about this home is so many of the original details have been maintained,” Ms. Oxley said.
There’s also an inglenook, a space near the home’s entry that has a fireplace and two chairs.
“That’s a lovely feature. … It’s a place where you can sit by the fire and have a conversation,” she said. “Of course, it was originally built so people could warm up in the middle of winter.”
The home has nine bedrooms total, including a lower level two-bedroom apartment with a separate entrance, according to the listing.
Singer-songwriter Marc Jordan, 74, and his wife, musician Amy Sky, 62, have lived in the home about 15 years, Ms. Oxley said. Mansion Global could not determine how much they paid for the property.
“Artists need space and light to dream and think, and every generous room in the house is infused with both, without sacrificing form or function,” Ms. Sky said in an email. “Marc and I and both our children, Zoe and Ezra, created some of our finest songs in either the house or the studio.”
The couple has hosted famous faces such as Olivia Newton John, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Richard Page of Mister Mister, Kim Bullard from Elton John’s band and Grammy- and Oscar-nominated composer Stephan Moccio, she added.
Mr. Jordan has written songs for the likes of Diana Ross, Cher, Bette Midler, Chicago and Josh Groban, while Ms. Sky has penned pieces for stars such as Reba McEntire, Belinda Carlisle, Aaron Neville, Heart and Cyndi Lauper. The couple put out their first album together last year—“He Sang She Sang,” which was nominated for the Adult Contemporary Album of the Year at the Junos in 2023. Their son, Ezra Jordan, meanwhile, has performed on “The Voice.”
“It’s really a house of music,” Ms. Oxley noted.
