It’s been billed as the Ross Lyon grudge match, with the new Saints coach facing his former side Fremantle for the first time since his sacking in 2019.
But the St Kilda coach has been left with “no rabbits in the hat” after a host of injuries to his attack end. Max King and Tim Membrey headline the list of 14 unavailable for Sunday’s clash with the Dockers at Marvel Stadium.
For Fremantle, it’s the start of a new era with David Mundy retired and Nat Fyfe shifted forward – leaving young guns Caleb Serong and Andy Brayshaw to lead the midfield.

Serong was quick to downplay the impact facing former Fremantle coach Lyon would have on the Dockers’ mentality.
“A lot of us never played under Ross. I’ve never met Ross (the same as) a lot of guys that are my age or younger,” he said.
“For us, we just want to get the season going off really well.”

Lyon described the Dockers as the “boom team in the west”.
“They’ll be coming over with huge expectation to win,” he said.
“They are almost at full bottle.
“It’ll be a big challenge.”
