Using the Internet and
advanced technology, the Aussie SchoolHouse is providing its participants with
opportunities for life-long learning. The Aussie SchoolHouse is a virtual meeting place
where people of all ages and backgrounds can build communities, collaborate, interact,
develop, publish, and discover resources. It is doing this through effective partnerships
within the Global SchoolHouse Community, while serving the Australian school community. The vision is to establish a `global' electronic
community, of linked schoolhouses, each providing opportunities for all schools -
teachers, parents and students, to participate in a global connected learning community in
a way that reflects the culture of their own community and country. These schoolhouses
will benefit many sectors: education, healthcare, government, business and the home. This
infrastructure is helping transform the way people interact and learn.
Core Beliefs
Our Core Beliefs are developed around the
following concepts:
- We need an Australian place and Australian
activities for Australian teachers and their students.
- Teachers need support in their
professional and curriculum roles.
- The Aussie SchoolHouse activities are
designed to encourage teacher participation and contributions in all phases, projects
design, project management, resource building, online community.
- We want to complement and extend existing
activity rather than duplicate.
- We need to connect teachers to the
communities they teach about and need to foster relationships between teachers and
industry groups. This extends to connecting students to industry groups.
- We aim to build projects and activities
which make a difference, which extend the ideas and practices of teachers and learners. In
doing so we are exploring new ideas and implementing innovative technologies and teaching
strategies.
Goals
With a focus on supporting teachers
changing the learning environment, the Aussie Schoolhouse's goals are.
- By supporting the development of
Australian communities of learners who share common needs, interests and aspirations,
increase Australian teacher participation and student participation in the use of
communications technologies.
- By developing Australian projects
available to global communities, foster the development of cultural, environmental,
socio-political and geographical understanding.
- By establishing collaborative partnerships
and models between many segments of the community (including homes, schools, businesses,
universities, and government organisations), we will promote corporate involvement in
educational projects and help create closer educational awareness between education and
business.
- Through research, infrastructure provision
and advocacy, contribute to a better understanding of communications technologies, and
promoting their responsible and effective use in education.
The Mission
The Aussie SchoolHouse will harness the
power and tools of the Internet and leading edge communications technologies to provide
ongoing and unique learning opportunities. |
